Indian music is originated from sama veda and the style of music is changed with the due course of time.

Samaveda is derived from rigveda and it is the smallest of 4 vedas.

Sama means shant or melody

Veda means knowledge.

Hence knowledge of melody/song.

India have seen many invasion,especially Mughal invasion contributed to the modern era of Indian classical music pretty well.

Indian classical music is subdivided into following:

1. Hindustani Classical Music
2. Carnatic Classical Music

Hindustani is popular in northern part of India and has influence of Mughal invasion.

Carnatic is popular in southern part of India and its pretty pure i.e samaveda influence.
